Abstract
This report is based on an internship with Manta Consulting. The internship was completed in Miami and the Galapagos Islands, from May 24 to September 24, 2000, and involved working in early stages of a project entitled: Development of an investment strategy for the Avina Foundation in the Galapagos Islands.
Early stages of the project involved: Phase 1- Background and Planning, Phase 2 - Field Work and Phase 3 - Analysis and Follow-up. During phase 1 literature review and phone interviews informed an initial diagnosis of the status of marine conservation in the Galapagos Islands. Phase 2 involved a trip to the Galapagos Islands where direct interviews with stakeholders complemented the diagnosis of phase 1. Lastly, phase 3 consisted of an analysis of the data collected in the first two phases and the development of a Draft Investment Strategy for the Avina Foundation.
