Abstract
An original composition for the beginning pianist with MIDI accompaniment was composed around the fairytale Cinderella. The composition loosely takes the form of a musical or melodrama, in which the fairytale of Cinderella is presented with music, action, and dialogue. At seven key points in the story, a short piano piece, descriptive of the characters and events transpiring, is interjected into the story and performed by the student pianists. An original General MIDI sequence has been created to accompany the student for each piece. Teacher piano accompaniments are also provided. The student piano score addresses specific pedagogical concepts which are taught in beginning piano method books. This work is analyzed using Alfred's Basic Piano Library as a model.
