Abstract
This project is an in-depth exploration of constructions of a homeland within the context of Haiti. In this process, there is an investigation of the Haitian identity as something that is space-based, with direct ties to the island on which it rests. Through an examination of the available literature, I seek to understand the Haitian people's claim to the island as a homeland and how this leads to constructions of self and identity tied to the land and place.
