Abstract
The project aimed to understand the strategies employed by women in Kampala's informal sector to exert agency and choice over their work. Through recorded interviews, I collected stories and experiences from 33 women in various informal occupations in Kampala Central Region, Uganda to identify common themes and strategies. The project found that women employed a range of growth strategies, including building networks of business support, negotiating with customers and suppliers, and diversifying their income sources. Participants reported that these strategies helped them to improve their working conditions, increase their income, and build confidence and skills.
