Abstract
Both in vitro and in vivo methods are used for estimating biologic activities of the substance, which probably is the physiological luteinizing hormone–releasing hormone (LH-RH), and follicle stimulating hormone-releasing hormone (FSH-RH), and its analogues. These methods involve the measurements of LH and FSH released from rat pituitaries into the incubation medium or into blood. These assays may be performed according to designs that permit statistical treatment of data and calculation of the relative potency, with 95% confidence limits of the material being tested with respect to the standard reference LH-RH/FSH-RH preparation. LH in incubation medium or blood is determined by a double antibody radioimmunoassay method for rat LH. FSH is determined either by the bioassay of Steelman and Pohley or a double antibody radioimmunoassay method for rat FSH.
