Abstract
For a variety of reasons, the current workforce is aging and there will be increased numbers of older workers across the occupational spectrum in the coming decades. With continual developments in technology and changes in social structures and societal values, the nature of jobs and work environments are also changing. To accommodate a rapidly aging workforce in a rapidly changing employment environment, it is critical to examine the capabilities and limitations of the worker and the demands of the job and workplace. The overarching goal is to maximize person-work environment fit. In this regard, the work environment should support health and safety and productivity for all age groups and should be designed to support older employees who bring tremendous potential benefits to the workplace.
