Abstract
Calciphylaxis with only nonulcerating plaques may respond to oral steroid
therapy, although steroids have been reported as an inciting factor in some cases
(9). In a case-controlled series of 36 patients, steroid administration resulted
improvement and reduced risk of ulceration when given to patients with plaques
only. However, in the presence of any ulcer or high risk of infection, steroid treatment should be cautioned.
