Abstract
This chapter describes the factors that need to be taken into consideration to streamline protein purification procedures. Researchers should ensure whether they are using the best source of material and whether the source is readily available in large quantities. Researchers should also consider whether they extract most of the available activity and whether any steps lead to unnecessarily large losses or relatively poor purifications. They should know whether they can avoid a concentration or dialysis step by changing the order of steps. They should ensure whether the solution conditions of the last step in the procedure are compatible with storage of the protein. They should consider whether they are using the best assay for their protein considering speed, cost, and accuracy.
