Abstract

antimicrobials bacteremia bacteria endogenous endophthalmitis fungal fungemia
Endogenous endophthalmitis is an uncommon but serious cause of intraocular inflammation. The most common etiologies include fungus, gram-negative bacteria, and gram-positive bacteria. Clinical examination in conjunction with blood and ocular cultures are essential for the diagnosis of endogenous endophthalmitis. Systemic antimicrobials with or without intravitreal antimicrobials and vitreous tap or pars plana vitrectomy are the major options for treatment.
