Abstract
A broad spectrum of iris lesions that ranges from cystic to solid to those simulating neoplasms, such as iridocorneal endothelial syndrome, will be discussed in this chapter. Although a detailed slit-lamp and gonioscopy evaluation can be beneficial in diagnosing these lesions, anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) can be an advantageous method to obtain structural features of iris lesions. AS-OCT offers clinicians a more comfortable and convenient imaging modality compared with ultrasound biomicroscopy. Standard AS-OCT features allow optical imaging with an image resolution of 18 microns and penetration depth of three to four mm, whereas swept-source OCT has a penetration up to five to seven mm, allowing this imaging modality to provide the best image resolution for iris abnormalities. This chapter will describe and illustrate situations in which AS-OCT can be used to diagnose and monitor patients with iris abnormalities.
