Abstract
Most people with acute viral hepatitis are anicteric and asymptomatic and infrequently seek medical attention. The physician therefore is more likely to see the patient with more severe disease that is clinically apparent. A safe and effective antiviral agent is not available although putative agents are being tested. Management of patients with viral hepatitis can be subdivided into several categories: acute uncomplicated viral hepatitis, cholestatic hepatitis, subacute fulminant hepatitis, and fulminant hepatitis.
