Abstract
Two drifting Meteorological-Thermistor Chain Buoys were deployed in the Færoe Shetland Channel area in June 1987. These buoys consisted of a small surface spar buoy supporting a surface meteorological package and a 300-m long thermistor chain with 15 sensors. The temperature measurements are analysed to characterise the thermal and sound speed variability in this region of complex oceanographic structure. Ancillary data from CTD surveys and a nearby current meter mooring are used to aid the interpretation of these measurements.
