Abstract
This chapter is organized into sections describing different behavioural interventions and the theoretical basis for their mechanisms of action, sections laying out the theoretical basis of how these behavioural interventions impact on the immune system and possible immune-related health outcomes, sections summarizing the empirical evidence for the effects of these interventions on psychosocial, endocrine, and immunological functioning including studies of different psychoneuroimmunology paradigms that have been applied to various populations. The final section focuses on directions for future research with new populations and emerging health questions. The overall goal is to show how behavioural interventions may be used both to illuminate basic psychoneuroimmunology mechanisms and to produce clinically relevant health outcomes.
