Abstract

The cause of the ulceration is ischemic necrosis due to oxygen deprivation of the affected tissue. Ulcers can be unilateral or bilateral, single or multiple (2-5). They often have irregular shapes. The morphology of the ulcers is not specific for particular types of anemia. Ulcers associated with ischemic processes are frequently resistant to conventional therapy.
