Abstract
Robot-assisted kidney transplantation (RAKT) signifies a notable leap forward in transplant surgery, offering a noteworthy alternative to conventional open procedures. Since the advent of the robotic surgical system in 2000, studies have consistently highlighted its advantages, including shorter hospital stays, reduced postoperative pain, and lower rates of surgical site infections. These benefits underscore the system's potential to revolutionize transplant surgery. Initially, RAKT's application was primarily in obese patients due to their increased surgical risks for open surgery and longer waiting times for transplantation. Recent trends, however, indicate broadening of indications, with nonobese patients also reaping the benefits of robot's assistance. The complexity of RAKT involves intricate operative considerations and challenges. This chapter delves into the nuanced surgical techniques essential for both graft implantation and donor nephrectomy, highlighting the critical steps and considerations that contribute to the success of this advanced surgical modality.
