Abstract
Ocular oncology is a subspecialty within ophthalmologyOphthalmology that primarily focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of intraocular malignancies and ocular surface malignancies. Examples of intraocular malignancy include uveal melanoma (UM), retinoblastoma (Rb), and metastatic tumor from systemic dissemination. Examples of ocular surface malignancy include conjunctival squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), conjunctival melanoma and conjunctival lymphoma. Currently, deep learningDeep learning (DL) is the cutting-edge machine learningMachine Learning (ML) technique for medical image analysis in various disease including cancer. However, given the relative rarity of intraocular and ocular surface malignancies and the need for a large amount of data in order to train a deep learningDeep learning system (DLS), there are only a limited number of studies published to date discussing the application of DL in the field of ocular oncology. In this chapter, we will highlight these publications and discuss the future directions of DL applications in ocular oncology.
