Abstract
This chapter surveys the intersection between medieval Iberian Studies and the digital humanities. A first section offers some key historical moments and relevant figures, and it underscores the presence of common research interests for the application of computer technologies since the early 1970s. The study then considers some challenges concerning online findability of the Iberian cultural heritage, by focusing on digitization of holdings (texts, images, or other physical objects) into digital surrogates, and the creation of bibliographical databases for primary sources and secondary bibliography. The following section of the chapter draws on the availability of online texts and it explores different examples of digital libraries and textual corpora. Finally, digital scholarly editions of medieval Iberian texts are discussed, assessing long-standing projects as well as new initiatives. Other digital trends that go beyond the textual realm, such as initiatives related to GIS, scribal scripts, and music, are also considered.
