Abstract
Traumatic injury of the hand and upper extremity is extremely common. This chapter reviews the history of replantation surgery as well as current and emerging concepts. Discussion of prehospital care allows the trauma surgeon to rapidly evaluate a patient as a candidate for replantation to facilitate expeditious transfer to a replant center. The indications, operative conduct, and postoperative care of replantation are also discussed.
