Abstract
Ulcerated nodules are often seen in the flexural areas of patients with Langerhans
cell histiocytosis, or histiocytosis X (2,5-7). Infants with this condition have widespread cutaneous disease with a seborrheic rash involving the scalp and flexural surfaces. The diagnosis is made by visualization of histiocytes with Birbeck granules on
histologic evaluation of cutaneous biopsy specimens. Treatment of the skin lesions
is usually conservative and supportive; however, in cases with more severe lesions,
topical corticosteroids and=or nitrogen mustard have been beneficial (36).
