Abstract
Lasers and lights have shown promise in treating inflammatory acne. They are safe and offer the benefit of few adverse events. This chapter reviews the techniques for treating acne with narrowband light, infrared diode laser, and photodynamic therapy, as established in some of the major studies utilizing these treatment options. It should be noted that certain challenges are unique to laser surgery in the pediatric population, which most of these studies did not have to contend with due to the higher age range of participants. It is important to remember the following general principles when dealing with pediatric patients: laser settings may need to be adjusted to account for pediatric skin and the unpredictable nature of its scarring. Moreover, the choice of suitable anesthesia, size‐appropriate safety equipment, and proper management of patient and parent anxiety should be considered.
