Abstract
This chapter discusses some of the most common pediatric disorders for which laser or light therapy is a treatment option. These pediatric disorders include alopecia areata (AA), vitiligo, psoriasis, molluscum contagiosum (MC), morphea, atopic dermatitis, lichen planus, and pityriasis lichenoides chronica. Immunotherapy with agents such as squaric acid dibutylester and diphenylcyclopropenone is commonly used as the treatment for AA. Narrowband‐ultraviolet B phototherapy has become a first‐line treatment option for generalized vitiligo, the xenon‐chloride excimer laser has become an alternative treatment option for patients with localized disease. Treatment for psoriasis is based on the severity of the disease. Among the physically destructive methods, the pulsed dye laser has been reported as a safe, well tolerated, quick, and highly effective treatment option for MC. There are numerous available topical treatments for atopic dermatitis, however, phototherapy can be considered as an adjuvant treatment or as an alternate option to classical treatment.
