Abstract
Wound healing occurs in almost all tissues and progresses through three sequential phases: inflammation, new tissue formation, and remodeling. The wound healing process described results in scar formation and occurs after most injuries. Specific guidelines for the management of scars in the pediatric population do not exist and thus much information is based on adult studies. Striae albae are the permanent form that develop from striae rubrae and present as hypopigmented, atrophic lesions similar to scars. The CO

laser for treatment of hypertrophic scars has proven itself to be an effective treatment modality. Treating scars with lasers requires the doctor to first follow the proper ANSI guidelines regarding the safe use of lasers within health care facilities. Proper laser therapy involves adjusting parameters to therapeutic treatment levels. Developing technologies and techniques in laser, medical, and combination therapy are promising for the treatment of scars.
