Abstract
The most frequent hyperpigmentations are melasma, solar lentigo, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Recent studies have shown the efficacy of Q-switched lasers, which are specific for the pigment, in melanocytic lesions referable to melasma, with reduction of the discomfort of the patients and the risk of side effects and complications. It must be remembered that the treatment of melasma with laser or pulsed light, or with a combination of them, is a non-first choice therapeutic option, to be performed only in selected cases after having verified the failure of traditional therapies.
