OPERATIVE TREATMENT OF LYMPHEDEMA

Abstract

Antibiotics should be administered for superimposed infection (cellulitis= lymphangitis). Skin erythema without systemic signs of infection does not necessarily imply infection and need not be treated. In severe chronic lymphedema with repeated episodes of cellulitis, appropriate prophylactic antibiotics are often indicated. Fungal infections can be treated with antimycotic drugs.
