Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) accounts for 2–3 % of all malignant diseases in adults, representing the third most frequent and the most lethal genitourinary cancer [1, 2]. An estimated 61,560 new cases of renal cancer are expected in 2015, with an estimated 14,080 deaths from this entity in the same period [3].
