Abstract
This chapter provides an overview of qualitative research that seeks to understand our relationship with the sea through direct and embodied experiences of sailing. In doing so it opens up new ways of thinking about our engagements with the ocean that move beyond writing about the sea as an empty or featureless expanse. Thinking and writing with the sea creates new spaces to think about the human-sea relationship; a challenge that we must all embrace if we are to address changing climatic conditions.
