Abstract
This chapter introduces the single unit analysis and discusses how such a method can be used to solve some types of problems in multi-echelon inventory systems such as serial systems and assembly systems. By focusing on the movement of a particular unit-customer pair, single unit analysis can provide simple proof techniques, generate ideas for developing efficient algorithms, and offer novel insights for management.
