Abstract
The aging process affects every aspect of the body, with the face being one of the first places to show signs. Patient-driven demands for safe and effective minimally invasive aesthetic procedures has allowed for an expansive and competitive market for dermal fillers. Soft tissue augmentation has grown immensely since its start in 1981 with collagen fillers. Fillers using hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite, poly-L lactic acid, and polymethylmethacrylate provide numerous choices so the best cosmetic outcome could be attained. The ability to correct facial rhytides and folds, augment lips and cheeks, correct acne scars, and now even replenish volume loss of the dorsum of the hands is something that many providers never thought was possible. With further research, the field of soft tissue augmentation will continue to advance.
