Abstract
As patients live longer with chronic immunosuppression, they will require elective
and=or semi-elective surgical procedures. Wound care clinicians will be asked to provide guidance to both patients and other healthcare providers as to the patient’s ability to heal should a procedure be undertaken. Examples include a kidney transplant
patient who may be a candidate for knee replacement surgery or a patient taking
methotrexate for psoriasis who is considering cosmetic surgery. Wound care clinicians will also be called upon to treat acute wounds in these patients whether they
occur as a result of elective and emergency interventions.
