Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic brought novel challenges to the practice of dermatologyDermatology, including the remote clinical management of hairHair diseases and scalp disorders. This chapter explores teledermatologyTeledermatology for hair and scalp disorders, where we define teletrichologyTeletrichology as the use of telecommunication platforms to interact with hair disorder patients remotely. We use the term to encompass triaging, consultations, remote imaging, and diagnoses (Randolph et al. in J Eur Acad Dermatol Venereol, 2020 [1]). The chapter assesses the nature of patient consultations and methods of evaluation of ailments in teledermatologyTeledermatology, the benefits and challenges of teletrichologyTeletrichology, and proposes triaging methods for efficient patient management. Finally, given that these remote consultations that arose due to the COVID-19 willCovid-19 likely endure and be integrated into routine practice, we offer policy and practical recommendations to improve patient outcomes.
