Abstract
Tic disorders are neurodevelopmental disorders that may affect up to 20% of children and adolescents. Tics include both motor and vocal symptoms and are categorized as provisional (lasting less than a year) or persistent (lasting more than a year). The most complex of the persistent tic disorders is Tourette's disorder, defined by multiple motor tics and at least one vocal tic, which persist for more than a year. Comorbid psychiatric disorders, particularly attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and obsessive‐compulsive disorder (OCD), are highly prevalent in Tourette's disorder. Treatment includes both cognitive behavioral interventions and medication management.
