Abstract
Lastly, consider the elderly patient with arthritis or weakness of the hands.
While preventing recurrence in the healed legs would perhaps be best managed with
therapeutic compression stockings of 30-40mmHg, if they are unable to get them on
or off, even with the use of assistive devices, the likelihood of wearing them consistently if at all is slim. While the higher level of compression is ideal, an alternative plan
of lesser compression coupled with frequent leg elevation may need to be considered.
