Abstract
This chapter introduces Mr. V, a 19yearold college student with a history of a childhood tic disorder. On evaluation, Mr. V reports a history of obsessions and compulsions consistent with obsessivecompulsive disorder (OCD). This chapter discusses OCD in detail, emphasizing its distinction from other anxiety disorders. Mr. V’s case exemplifies how OCD can lead to avoidance behaviors and interfere with daily functioning. This chapter also delves into treatment options for OCD. Psychotherapeutic approaches, particularly exposure and response prevention therapy, can be effective in treating OCD. In summary, this chapter provides a comprehensive overview of OCD, its diagnosis, treatment options, and a reallife case illustrating the successful management of the disorder.
