Abstract
This poster aims to introduce and bring attention to the growing interdisciplinary field of graphic medicine and the available resources. As defined by Dr. Ian Williams, comic artist and founder of GraphicMedicine.org, graphic medicine is “The intersection of the medium of comics and the discourse of healthcare”(Czerwiec et al., 2015). As a result, there is a wide range of topics to discuss, including but not limited to: caregiving, medical education, mental health, women’s health, LGBTQ+ health, and so much more.
Comics and more specifically, graphic medicine oftentimes welcome deeply personal narratives with innovative, creative, and engaging approaches to discussing healthcare. By encouraging people to draw from their own experiences with healthcare, not only does it dismantle taboos in medicine, but it also invites everyone to participate in the discussion. The poster will equip librarians, professors, and artists with the resources to build their collections, teach students, and contribute to the genre.
