Abstract
Dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) is an important nutrient source for marine microbes and is the largest reservoir of fixed nitrogen across the Arctic Ocean. However, the distributions and dynamics of this DON pool remain poorly constrained due to the Arctic’s remoteness. We conducted the first trans-Arctic measurements of δ15NDON to investigate the processes responsible for influencing DON pools across this biogeochemically heterogeneous system. Samples were collected from two Arctic cruises, GEOTRACES GN01 (HLY1502) and GN04 (PS94) occupied in 2015, which together are recognized as ARC01 as part of the GO-SHIP program. This is a merged dataset of δ15NDON from both cruises. The δ15NDON was measured as in Knapp et al. (2005).
