Abstract
The purpose of this research paper is the construction of a critical edition score to Michael Colgrass’ Winds of Nagual, as well as the creation of errata for the parts. This work, composed in 1985, established itself as standard repertoire for winds and percussion almost immediately following its premiere by The New England Conservatory Wind Ensemble and its conductor Frank Battisti. It has received international acclaim and awards from the Sudler International Wind Band Composition prize, the National Band Association Best Composition Award, and the Barlow Award. The research paper addresses the need for the critical edition score, the discovery and listing of corrigenda inherent to the parts, and a brief biography of the composer.
