Abstract
Multiple woodwind performers are highly skilled musicians playing multiple instruments in a variety of roles. Playing in a wide range of styles on multiple instruments in reduced orchestrations requires a heightened level of versatility and flexibility on behalf of the performer. This study will focus on the low reed specialist within these confines. Necessary information from standard and non-standard pedagogical resources will be identified and expanded upon to develop a method for the advanced low reed specialist. Standard and non-standard approaches to air, embouchure, voicing, and articulation will be addressed. The goal of this study is to provide a pedagogical resource to assist in the development of versatility and flexibility through the use of individual exercises, chamber settings, and ensemble settings. These goals will be achieved through a series of etudes at varying levels of orchestration from one instrument, to 4-6 instruments, to small Broadway-style orchestras.
