Abstract

Education, Music Music

This doctoral essay focuses on an analytical approach to musical interpretation. Music analysis is the functional tool used to locate phrases and climaxes within selected Lyric Preludes by William Gillock. Intermediate literature was chosen to show the functional applications that harmonic and thematic analysis have for the teacher, student, and performer at all levels of musical development.
