Abstract
"Anything for Family: A Chamber Opera in Two Acts" is a chamber opera revolving around twin sisters scheming to help one another despite the possible consequences. The libretto was inspired by twin memoirs including Isabel Stenzel Byrnes and Anabel Stenzel’s memoir "The Power of Two: A Twin Triumph Over Cystic Fibrosis" and by my own experiences as a twin. "Anything for Family" takes place in a scenario where Georgia’s HB 481 anti-abortion “heartbeat” bill passed and is in effect. The opera opens with a family party establishing the different characters and the dynamic between them. In secret, one of the sisters reveals to the other she is pregnant. The twin sisters do not come to terms with their unwanted pregnancy until the end of Act I and face the consequences of it in Act II. Musically the opera features devices and other hallmarks including the use of musical cryptograms, counterpoint, chromaticism, and motives.
