Abstract
In this study, I will analyze the characteristics of lead trumpet performance practices through live interviews with Wayne Bergeron, Bobby Shew, Tony Kadleck, Joe Mosello, Bijon Watson, and Bryan Davis. The purpose of this study is to examine the fundamental concepts and specific playing techniques that go into lead trumpet performance practices. This study will frame a technical and philosophical understanding of lead trumpet performance based on the main points gleaned from the interviews within it. The study will also attempt to explicate the philosophies of both playing concepts and specific techniques pertaining to lead trumpet performance useful for students, band directors, and aspiring lead trumpeters.
