Abstract
The purpose of this study is to discuss representative choral works by Daniel Pinkham composed between 1968-1983. Particular emphasis in this document will be given to the conductor's perspective. A biographical account of Daniel Pinkham is included, as well as an overview of this method of composing, compositional techniques, and texts used since 1968. Three representative works, Ascension Cantata, Daniel in the Lions' Den and Fanfares, are analyzed from a theoretical, historical and performer's perspective. Direct quotes from Daniel Pinkham will be used throughout this paper. These quotes are primarily taken from a personal interview at the composer's home on November 21, 1983, and from correspondence by phone and letters. The appendix will provide a chronological catalog of works with publishers, text sources, and instrumentations.
