Abstract
Sinfonietta For Rosetta is a work for small orchestra in four movements. The main theme is derived from an unfinished operetta entitled Wilbur and Rosetta. An important concern of this piece is the establishment of form through a seamless, contiguous, and coextensive use of elements derived from modes and from a pitch-series. Integration of series and modal material is achieved through treatments of harmony, melody, and voice-leading. In addition to providing variety, orchestration enhances a blithe character, shifts in chromaticism, and variations in texture.
