Abstract
In recent years, academic advising has garnered more attention from college leaders for its critical role in supporting student success. Academic advising is particularly crucial for community college students, many of whom have professional and familial responsibilities outside of college. These students constitute a significant portion of the U.S. college student population, especially given the open-access mission of community colleges. Therefore, the current study sought to understand the perceptions of academic advising of students enrolled in associate degree programs with a focus on (1) the orientation experience, (2) program of study comprehension, (3) course registration, (4) resource identification, and (5) career advising. Ninety-four students from Miami-Dade College, part of the Florida College System, participated in an online survey, with findings indicating generally positive student perceptions of academic advising across the five domains examined, suggesting that advising services effectively supported students' understanding of their academic pathways and available resources.
