Abstract

Music

"Serenade de Don Juan" is established as an interesting work in terms of its stylistic innovations as well as its compositional materials. Its tonal/atonal qualities are explored through integer analysis, which reveals six predominant sets manipulated by Szymanowski throughout the work. Each of these sets possesses its own affective tendencies to bring about changes in the music. Performance suggestions are related to and supported by these findings.
