Abstract
This paper will illustrate different but complementary concepts in the movement of right-hand fingers: the five finger motions, the four pressure positions, articulated and non-articulated bow strokes, and the four-stage action of collé. These concepts will then be applied to specific aspects of bow techniques: tone production, bow changes, string crossings, martelé, spiccato, staccato, and sautillé. Lastly, the paper will provide, in steps, a pedagogical method to mastering the collé action, as well as understanding the roles of the right-hand fingers.
