Abstract
The World Below follows the lives of numerous citizens of an underwater society called Drexciya, a community built by former African slaves who escaped during the ship voyage West. Drexciya is divided between citizens with memories of the Above and those who have only ever lived Below. Characters like Adwoa, the Absolute Chieftess of Drexciya, Kay, the Chieftess Advisor, Ifeoma, a rebellious mother, and more search for a new definition of home and belonging in the depths of the sea.
