Abstract
This is a fifteen-minute composition for orchestra that utilizes a variety of twentieth century techniques. Description and analysis include form, pitch material, over all character, rhythm, and texture (to include dynamics, instrumental color, tempo and rate of change, and special effects).
The character of the piece is exotic and mysterious. This was created primarily in two ways: 1) by utilizing intervallic material from a pitch set, the set gradually transforming into its complement within a sectional form, and 2) by employing rhythmic and textural devices that organize much of the piece as opposed to using traditional melodic and harmonic development. Rhythmically there is a continual contrast between a feeling of unmeasured time, strict pulse, sustained textures, and very rhythmic sections with an irregular sense of meter. Texturally there is abundant use of twentieth century techniques.
