Abstract

Behavioral inhibition Light-dark Melanocyte-stimulating hormone
MSH was administered to rats tested with a passive avoidance response (PAR) at the peak (one hour after dark) and lowest (in the middle of the light period) level of activity. MSH treatment significantly inhibited the PAR in the dark period. For all animals, inhibition of response was intricately related to phase of activity. This implies an effect on memory and/or the expression of fear.
