Abstract

Patients with schizophrenia reliably demonstrate impairments on neuropsychological tests with most marked deficits on measures of attention, memory, and problem solving. This article reviews the course, frequency, and severity of observed deficits; discusses the role of medication and symptomatic state in cognitive performance; and suggests guidelines for clinical assessment.
