The article by Wajszczuk and his co-workers in the January 2 issue of the
Journal
emphasized certain hazards found in a particular make of "demand" pacemaker. In tests conducted in our department we found that the "demand" pacemaker of the same make and type as used by Dr. Wajszczuk evidenced false canceling in the presence of electrical interference caused by electrocautery, radiofrequency diathermy, dentist's drill or one specific type of electric razor applied directly to the skin over the pacemaker.
In identical tests performed on several of the American Optical Cardio-care implantable "demand" pacemakers we were not . . .
